A Deep Dive into Roulette: Rules and Strategies

Roulette is an iconic casino game, instantly recognizable by its spinning wheel and the small white ball that determines players' fortunes. As a game of pure probability, roulette is easy to learn and offers a unique kind of excitement.

How the Game Works
The core of the game is the roulette wheel, which is divided into numbered pockets. There are two main variations of the wheel:

Single-Zero Roulette: This wheel has 37 pockets, casino numbered 1-36 (alternating between red and black) and a single green "0" pocket. This is the preferred version for casino players as its house edge is lower. American Roulette: This wheel has 38 pockets, including the numbers 1-36, a single "0", and an additional "00" pocket, also green. The extra pocket significantly increases the house edge to 5.26%, making it less favorable for players.

Your goal is to correctly guess the final resting place of the ball.

Types of Bets in Roulette
Roulette offers a wide variety of betting options, which can be divided into two main categories: Inside Bets and Outside Bets.

Inside Bets
These bets are on the numbers themselves and feature long odds with high rewards.

Straight Up: A single-number bet that pays 35:1. Split: A bet on two adjacent numbers. Payout is 17 to 1. Street: Betting on a three-number row. Corner: Betting on the intersection of four numbers.

Outside Bets
These are wagers on general outcomes and have better odds with lower payouts.

Red/Black: A simple color bet that pays even money. Odd/Even: An even-money bet on the number's property. High/Low: Betting on the number falling in the 1-18 or 19-36 group. Dozens/Columns: Betting on a group of 12 numbers.

Can You Beat the Wheel?
Because roulette is a game of pure chance, there is no strategy that can guarantee a win or overcome the house edge in the long run. Betting strategies like the Martingale system do not work and are dangerous for your bankroll. The smartest approach is to play responsibly, set a budget, and stick to the European version of the game.
